Theatre eXceptional's education programs include three sessions of classes in the Pinellas and Hillsborough area throughout the year.

Our in-person** classes are open to adults ages 17+ and are centered on giving professional theatre education to adults with varying disabilities and prepare them for professional theatre opportunities outside of Theatre eXceptional. 

 

Classes for teens ages 13-17 are coming soon with Theatre neXt - learn more here! - while in virtual classes, students 13+ can sign up for Theatre 101.

Classes include Intro to Theatre, Musical Theatre, Improv, Shakespeare, and various advanced classes.

BEGINNER CLASSES
 

Theatre 101: Intro to Theatre
(required prerequisite for all classes except Hand Drumming,
available for students 13+) 

Mondays 6-7:30 pm

This introductory class covers all the basics- improv games, acting exercises, singing and voice work, movement/dance, playwriting, and more, all while creating a performance for the showcase on the last week of class.

 

Basic Hand Drumming and Percussion
Mondays 6-7 p.m.

In this fun hand drumming and percussion class, students will be exploring the world of rhythm. Students will get the chance to “jam out” and explore different cultures and the percussion instruments from those regions. 

 


INTERMEDIATE CLASSES

Intro to Shakespeare
(Prerequisite: 1 Session of Theatre 101)
Mondays 7:30-9 p.m.

In this class, students will learn how to read and perform Shakespeare’s work. Each student will be assigned a character from a classic play by Shakespeare that they will workshop throughout the class. 

 

Musical Theatre

Offered with a singing or Dancing Focus
(Prerequisite: 1 Session of Theatre 101)
Tuesdays 7-8:30 p.m.

In this class, students will create and perform in a small musical, either learning the songs (Singing Focus) or dances (Dance Focus) all while working as a team to create a finished "movie"-style product to be streamed on showcase day!

 

Improv Acting
(Prerequisite: 1 Session of Theatre 101)
Thursdays 6:30-8 p.m.

Improvisation, or improv, is a form of live theatre where everything is made up on the spot based on audience suggestions. This class will teach students to think on their feet while laughing their heads off!
